One-Day Apex Corrugated Beginners Class

Have you ever wondered what a hexagonal 60° anilox cell engraving actually looks like? Or considered what vital role it plays in achieving the best results in print on corrugated board? By organizing a one-day training, tailored to the corrugated industry, Apex is providing print professionals with answers to these – and many more – questions by sharing relevant insights, practical knowledge and important background information on the basics of anilox technology.

Covering every aspect of anilox

Some 40 corrugated-professionals from the Benelux gathered last June at Apex’ headquarters in Hapert (The Netherlands) for the ‘Corrugated Beginners Class 2017’ training. With a mix of presentations, Apex specialists made sure to cover every aspect of anilox technology and its impact on the corrugated industry. Their valuable information ranged from how gluesets can improve the manufacturing of corrugated board, to the impact that laser engraved ceramic aniloxes have on print quality, and the importance of good cleaning and maintenance.

Participant Steffen Maeseele only started his job as production manager at VPK Packaging some months ago: “I’m new to this industry, so I really needed to catch up on the technical side of the production process. To learn about anilox, get to know Apex better, see its production capabilities, and meet other people from the industry – all in just one day – provides me with a solid basis to work from.”

Factory tour and live demonstrations

A guided factory tour and live demonstrations offers participants an interesting ‘look behind the scenes’ at the Apex-facility that handles the manufacturing and refurbishing of some 12,000 anilox rolls annually. Apex-specialists are at hand to explain every detail – from the visual inspection of the rolls’ surface, to the use of a revolutionary plasma spray coater to produce a compact ceramic layer of unequalled purity.

Leo Eg (Technical Manager at Smurfit Kappa) says the Apex training offered a unique opportunity to further broaden his understanding of anilox: “I really appreciate the fact that we get to see and experience up close what it takes to get an anilox roll exactly right and guarantee its specifications. I’m very impressed by the technical skills and the high level of quality control throughout the whole process. It confirms the trust we put in Apex as one of our preferred suppliers.”

‘Better understanding of the importance of anilox’

Sven Ten Kulve (production manager at Dopak) attended the Apex-training in June for the second time: “Two years ago I really wanted to expand my knowledge about aniloxes beyond just the basic principles, and I was very impressed by the information that Apex provided me with. As we constantly aim to further improve our performance, I thought it would be a good thing to bring three colleagues with me this time to make sure we’re able to get the best results possible. By sharing this information within our company, we will be creating more awareness: our people will better understand the importance of anilox rolls and be able to act accordingly.”
